Our Process
At DB Interiors + Design, we believe that truly beautiful spaces begin with a clear, intentional process. Our approach is structured yet highly personalized, designed to create a seamless experience while ensuring every detail is carefully considered.
The typical process starts as we head to site for the initial consultation to discuss scope/view the site and then put an estimate for further services if required. Once that’s approved, a site kick-off meeting is held and the majority of the planning/sourcing materials etc. is done off site in our office or at showrooms. Plan review meetings are either handled virtually or on-site and then material presentations are handled in person.
We take the time to understand you, your lifestyle, your vision, and how you want your home to feel. This foundational step allows us to craft a design that is not only visually refined, but deeply aligned with the way you live.
From initial concept through to final execution, each phase is guided with expertise, collaboration, and meticulous attention to detail. The result is a cohesive, elevated space that feels effortless, functional, and uniquely yours.

PHASE 1 (3-5 weeks):
Project Inquiry
Let’s begin with a conversation: Each project begins with a thoughtful conversation. We invite you to connect with us by phone or through our project inquiry form to share your vision, goals, and design needs.
Whether you are planning a custom new build, a full scale renovation, or a refined update, we take the time to understand your project and guide you towards the service that best aligns with your vision.
Initial Consultation
- Meet + Greet: Our process begins with a comprehensive, 2 hour in home consultation designed to establish a clear foundation for your project.
- Understanding your vision: We explore the scope of your project, discuss your goals, and identify both the challenges and opportunities within your space. You’ll receive thoughtful, professional insight along with initial design direction.
- Budget + Timeline: We work within your parameters to outline a realistic plan – ensuring the process feels clear, manageable, and enjoyable from the very beginning.
- Building the relationship: A successful project is rooted in trust and communication. We take the time to listen, observe, and understand the finer details that will inform the design journey ahead.
Design Proposal
Following our consultation, you will receive a detailed proposal and investment guide tailored specifically to your project.
- A clear path forward: A personalized, step-by-step outline of our design process, showing how your project will unfold from concept to completion.
- Transparent investment: Clear, structured pricing for each phase so you understand exactly what to expect at every stage.
Project Initiation (Upon Approval of Design Proposal)
- Site Analysis + Planning: We conduct a comprehensive review of your project, including site conditions, existing plans, and any relevant bylaws or constraints. For renovations, we take detailed measurements and document existing conditions.
- A deeper understanding: We refine your vision through inspiration imagery, lifestyle considerations, and the meaningful details that make your home uniquely yours.
Concept Development
- Space planning: We develop thoughtful floor plans that explore layout possibilities and establish a strong functional foundation.
- Design direction: Through curated concept boards, we translate your vision into a cohesive aesthetic – defining materials, tones, and the overall design language of your home.
PHASE 2 (8-10+ weeks):
Design Development
With the foundational concept in place, we move into a highly detailed phase where every element is thoughtfully refined and brought into alignment.
- Detailed drawing packages: We further develop and fine tune your approved floor plan to ensure they fully support the way you live. This includes custom millwork designs, space planning, and both 2D and 3D drawings – allowing you to clearly visualize your home before construction begins.
- Material + Finishes: We curate and present elevated, cohesive selections that balance beauty, function, and longevity. From surfaces and fixtures to furnishings, every choice is made with intention – creating a timeless, layered result that reflects your personal style.
- Refined detailing: Through collaborative meetings and curated showroom visits, we review every element in depth – plans, elevations, materials, and finishes – refining each space room by room to ensure a cohesive and highly resolved design.
Construction Documentation
This phase translates the design into a comprehensive, technical package – ensuring clarity, accuracy, and a seamless transition into construction.
- Permit plans + Construction drawings: (if applicable) We prepare detailed construction drawings and documentation required for permits and implementation. This may include millwork elevations, plumbing rough-in’s, electrical and lighting plans, and fully resolved layouts.
- Final selections + Specifications: You will receive a complete design package outlining all materials, finishes, fixtures, and key details – providing your builder and trades a clear roadmap to bring the design to life.
PHASE 3 (8-12+ weeks):
Site Implementation
As your project moves into construction, we remain closely involved to ensure the design is executed with precision and integrity.
- Design management: (if applicable) We collaborate closely with your builder and trades, acting as a trusted partner throughout the construction phase. Through ongoing communication and scheduled site visits, we oversee the design implementation, address questions in real time, and ensure every detail is carried out as intended. Our role is to advocate for the design, maintain alignment across all teams, and create a smooth, well coordinated process – allowing your project to progress with clarity and confidence.

How long does the design process take?
Why do I need all of this documentation?
The documentation will help your builder to stay on track during the build, customize the build to suit you and help us place ordered against your specifications.
Can I use my existing furniture?
What happens if I change my mind during the design process?
We understand that design is a collaborative process and revisions may be necessary. We include two rounds of revisions in the design development phase. Any additional revisions beyond these two rounds may be subject to additional fees.
How involved will I need to be in the project?
The level of involvement is entirely up to you. We can handle everything from start to finish, or we can work collaboratively with you on every detail.
Do you offer project management services?
We currently offer design management services, we are not licensed or insured to perform project management or general contracting services.
Through our design management services, we will help to oversee the trades as it relates to our scope of work during construction, performing frequent site visits to ensure that the design is being executed to plan. We may agree to consult at as project coordinator for select projects.
